Book of Life

What is the Book of Life?

The bible says, "all people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment". (Hebrews 9:27) 

“The Book of Life" is God’s record of all those who have trusted in the forgiveness of Jesus Christ and have accepted His Free Gift of eternal life.  The bible says, "Only those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life will be allowed to enter into heaven".  (Revelation 21:27) 

Those who have trusted in Jesus Christ already have their name written in the Book of Life. But, if a person's name is not found in the Book of Life, they will not be allowed to enter heaven and will have to stand before God at the "Great White Throne Judgement".

What is The Great White Throne Judgement? It is God's final judgment against all those who did not accept the forgiveness of Jesus Christ. The bible says, "and if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire". 

When an unbeliever dies, their body gets buried, but their spirit, the real part of them, goes to hades. It is a holding place for all unbelievers until their final judgement. It is a place of intense suffering. 

Jesus talked about it in Luke 16, the parable of Lazarus and the rich man. The rich man died, and he went to hades, and he said, "I'm in agony in these flames", "please send someone to warn my five brothers, so they will not also come to this place of torment".  

Unbelievers are not just simply destroyed when they're judged. They will suffer forever, and ever. Revelation 20:10 says, "and they were tormented in the lake of fire, day and night forever, and ever".    

That is the fate of everyone who leaves this life without trusting in the forgiveness of Jesus Christ.  After that final judgment, the Great White Throne judgment, we enter into eternity forever. All believers will spend eternity in heaven, while all unbelievers will spend eternity in the lake of fire. 

Nothing is more important than having your name written in the Lamb's Book of Life.”

Prayer of Salvation

Lord Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God and that you died on the cross for my sins. I ask you to forgive me of my sins and come and live in my heart forever. I choose to turn from my sin, and to follow you from this day forward. Write my name in your book of life, so that I can spend eternity in heaven with you. Thank you for forgiving me of my sins. Amen.
